GTA

I have a problem with Grand Theft Auto, not because I believe that it will turn children violent. No, it might inspire violence in someone who is already a powder keg, but that sort of potential would likely be ignited by some other source, anyway. My problem with Grand Theft Auto is that it reveals the part of ourselves which would wish away the moral codes by which we live. It shows that somewhere inside of us, we would like to live a consequence free life, steal cars without remorse, beat people without regret, degrade women without regard...It shows that no matter how dearly we value our social codes, or how much we respect justice, somewhere we think life might be more fun without these rules, more liberating without God himself.

If you're simply saying that there is evil in men and women, and that is lamentable, I would agree with you. I think it's an unfair assumption, however, that anyone who plays that ridiculous excuse for a game would take the chance, if he or she had it, to live in a world without moral authority or justice.

A little more former, a little less latter, because I have, in the past, played GTA and enjoyed it.

I'm just explaining to the wide world why, today, the game makes me uncomfortable, so that I won't feel compelled to give this spiel every time the game comes up. And so I can explain my discomfort without sounding like some super-crazy conservative (as opposed to just a semi-crazy conservative).

Actually, all the politicians who have blamed violence on video games have been Democrats. At least all the ones that have held investigative committees and banned the selling of certain video games to children under 18 in their states have all been Democrats. The only Republican I can think of is Arnold.

That's because political conservatives are pro-violence. Personal conservatives however...

So you have a vast amount of experience with 'personal conservatives'?
